Sustainability is the common buzz word of the past few years. We're all switching to refill water bottles, and swapping cling film for beeswax wraps, while large scale corporations greenwash us with "eco friendly" processes and 50% recycled packaging.
Becoming a more sustainable population and planet is on everyone's minds, whether it be fear for future generations, a desire for genuine change or just optimal optics that turn a healthy planet into a healthy bottom line.
After a much needed break from the chaotic internal and external pace of my 2022 life so far, i've been thinking about what I can do to make my life more sustainable, in the truest sense. The first definition of sustainability in the Oxford Dictionary reads as "the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level" and ultimately, this is my focus for sustainability as opposed to taking my reusable tote on the weekly shop.
Without change and a new focus upon on how to adapt my current life to be sustainable, it's not achievable. Without effort, there is no option to maintain 21st century life at a contented level. The memes that question how we are supposed to fit in "Work / friends / family / a relationship / a tidy home / admin / working out / all while maintaining decent mental health are bang on the money.
We relate and move on, without much thought or question of the status quo, because the time to be present in that moment will steal more time from our endless to do list. While i'm not off to live in a hut on a remote island, i am on a new quiet quest to live a much more simple, slow and sustainable life within the confines of my own current eco system.
I'll be documenting this very unaesthetic journey on my instagram, if you want to come along for the quiet meander.
