Come on, now don’t act like you’re not just a little bit in love with M&S. Although you may not be overly enthusiastic on the place as a whole, I’m sure some of this uniquely British establishment will hold a special place in your heart – even if it is just for the guarantee of an eternally clean loo or a Granny lunching alone in the cafe.
With Marks & Spencer, there’s seems to be something oh so familiar and comforting. A classic & constant site on the high street, this department store has stood the test of time, just like that well worn sweater sitting neatly in your wardrobe; A perpetual option to rely on for almost any occasion.
However, when it comes to its supposed main arsenal of clothing, it’s never really been a main player to a younger, more trend conscious customer. My first two immediate thoughts of M&S garments are these: 1. The place you get measured and buy (*have someone else buy for you*) your first ‘bra’, a.k.a a dodgy crop top/elastic vest hybrid. 2. It’s where me nan shops.
So even though I daydream of a future where I can do my weekly food shop there, it’s never somewhere I head for clothing. Don’t get me wrong though, in the past twelve months I’ve bought 3 pieces of clothing from there which have all been delightfully positive (2 dresses; 1 for a wedding, one that means my figure doesn’t look like an uncooked jacket potato, and a pair of high waisted pinstripe trousers) but realistically it’s just not my first port or call.
This season however, M&S limited Edition is killing it – to the extent that I didn’t even recognise the latest ad campaign while I was browsing Grazia in work – on a break, I swear.
And while there’s definitely some pieces i’ll be staying far, far away from, namely the Western Faux Leather Shirt, Marksies has actually come up trumps with some super reasonably priced gems that work time and time again.
Here’s my 5 favourite pieces of their latest drop:
1. Crossover Striped top, £22.50
2. Faux Leather heart body bag, £29.50
3. Cotton Rich Skinny Dungarees, £49.50
4. Painted Floral A-line Skirt, £39.50
5. Shades Girl Print Long line T-Shirt, £22.50
